Tools to Help Pay for Child Care

Virginia Tech employees and students may be eligible for one or more of the following programs to assist with the cost of child care.

Virginia Department of Education Child Care Subsidy Program

The Child Care Subsidy Program (CCSP) assists families in paying child care costs for children under age 13 who are not eligible to attend public school during the part of the day when public education is available, or children with special needs under age 18 who reside with the applicant.

Employee Child Care Supplement

Virginia Tech Supplement

Virginia Tech provides a supplement of $500 to full-time, benefits-eligible staff employees who make an annual salary of $35,500 or less. This taxable supplement can be used by employees to offset expenses, such as childcare or parking, and upon review, will be paid annually to eligible employees.

Flexible Spending Account

Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account

A Dependent Care FSA allows employees to set aside funds on a pre-tax basis to pay for eligible dependent care expenses throughout the coverage period. Employees are not required to participate in Virginia Tech’s health insurance plan to take advantage of the Flexible Spending Accounts.

Child Care Grant for Work Related Travel

Dependent Care Travel Grant

The Dependent Care Travel Grant Program is is a pilot program developed by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost to reduce the barriers to caregivers for attending work related events that require travel. Eligible VT faculty may receive as much as $1,000 per academic year towards dependent care-related expenses above and beyond their regular dependent care expenses while attending professional academic events away from home.
